Boris’s promises
• THE gloss is coming off the Mayor of London Boris Johnson (left).
He is good on publicity hype, but what does he really offer?
The mayor made a whole load of promises to get elected, many of which remain to be fulfilled or have been overturned, like opposition to tall buildings in London and pollution targets.
His opposition to Heathrow expansion looks weak when viewed alongside the crazy plan to build an airport in the Thames estuary.
Huge cost unknown and a major area for bird life. Even the abolition of the western extension to the Congestion Zone has not gone (as I found to my cost last week trying to access the A40 Westway from the Harrow Road) – not before 2010, according to the mayor’s website and no date given.
