Life on the ocean waves: Daniella and friends take up the tall ships challenge
THERE might not be a marina in Pimlico but that doesn’t seem to have troubled one young sailing fanatic.
Daniella Olaleye, a pupil at Grey Coat Hospital CofE School certainly knows her spinnaker from her starboard, being selected along with 23 other students to board two Challenger yachts for a voyage along the south coast.
The group, all aged 14 and 15, received training before setting sail on the four-day voyage organised by the Tall Ships Youth Trust, finishing with a prizegiving ceremony in Portsmouth last week.
Tim Law, from the trust said: “We’re opening up opportunities for people as young as 14 to sail on a ocean-going yacht and gain a qualification that they can use to continue sailing.
“We’ll encourage these students to continue in the sport after their voyage by sailing on another tall ships voyage or giving dinghies a go at their local sailing club.” |
