WESTMINSTER will be at the heart of the Mayor of London’s feted bike hire scheme
Transport for London (TfL) is seeking approval for 136 docking stations across the borough – more than a quarter of the total – with sites in Regent’s Park, Pimlico, Paddington and the Strand.
Mayor Boris Johnson hopes the scheme, modelled on the successful Velibe system in Paris, will be up and running by summer next year.
He said: “I pledged to deliver a cycling revolution across the city, and there is now a growing excitement about our cycle hire scheme.”
The council’s director of transportation, Martin Low, said: “We are committed to working with TfL to determine how we can implement this scheme here and encourage even more of our residents and 1.1 million daily visitors to cycle safety.” |
