G20 death: Protest at cop tactics
THOUSANDS of protesters demonstrated outside Scotland Yard in Victoria following the death of Ian Tomlinson during the G20 protests.
Marchers walked from Trafalgar Square and past Downing Street on Saturday before mirroring the controversial “kettle” tactic used by police during the protests
Green MEP Jean Lambert, who was on the march, said: “It was horrifying to witness the heavy handed tactics employed by police on the streets of London during the G20 summits in April, and deeply disturbing to learn of the death of Ian Tomlinson, an innocent man.
“We are remembering Ian Tomlinson, Jean Charles de Menezes, who was killed four years ago, Brian Douglas who died in 1995, Blair Beach, who was killed 30 years ago, and all those people – more than 100 – who have died in police custody since 1969.” |
