The tile that has appeared at Oxford Circus |
More Space Invader, or an alien advert?
IT looks like Space Invader may have struck again, this time outside the Argyll Street exit of Oxford Circus Tube station.
The blue tile pictured below looks suspiciously like some of Invader’s other works, which have been popping up all over Soho in recent weeks.
Keeping in the spirit of things, this Parisian guerrilla artist will not be defeated. Not by Westminster Council anyway, as it seems like the road sign covering a tile on a Manette Street building has since been removed by a mystery rebel.
However, the origins of this particular tile are still questionable. Disappointingly enough, it could be nothing more than a data matrix advert.
Developed by the Japanese, QR is a form of data-encrypted code which can be scanned using a reader-equipped mobile to translate a message onscreen. According to its creators it is the “next generation of barcodes”.
Well, this recent addition could be just that. But who really knows? Answers on a tile. |
