West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 12 June 2009
Help fight the biggest killer in UK
• I HAVE just signed the British Heart Foundation’s petition demanding a clear plan for tackling heart and circulatory conditions in England over the next 10 years, and I would like to make a plea for West End Extra readers to do the same.
The current plan to improve care and treatment has significantly helped reduce the number of deaths from heart disease, but it was designed as a 10-year work programme and it is almost at the end of its shelf-life.
Heart and circulatory disease is the United Kingdom’s biggest killer, claiming the lives of around 200,000 people a year.
There are more than two million heart patients living in England alone, and with no published plan to replace it there’s a danger that the opportunity to build on the good work done so far will be lost. Please sign the BHF petition at www.newheartplan.org.uk Rishi Chandiramani
