Low take-up for cheap travel deal
• I HAVE been fighting for two years to get people on Jobseeker’s Allowance half-price bus and tram travel.
So I was delighted when the Mayor of London Boris Johnson finally took up my plan.
With rising unemployment, it really is important everything is done to help people looking for work. But now I’ve discovered that take-up of the discount since the scheme started in April has been disappointingly low.
The Liberal Democrats want the mayor to do far more to publicise this new scheme. Meanwhile I encourage everyone who has been on Jobseeker’s Allowance for more than 13 weeks to claim. Further information on how to claim is available at tfl.gov.uk/discountcard
or by calling the helpline on 0845 330 9876.
