Phone sex pest menaced thousands
A SERIAL sex pest who terrorised thousands of women across the country with explicit phone calls has been jailed for three years and banned from talking to women.
Badredean Barbar from Salisbury Street, Lisson Grove, was sentenced to 40 months in prison at Southwark Crown Court.
Part of his rehabilitation will include sex therapy after he was convicted in connection with nearly 5,000 nuisance calls, subjecting his victims to heavy breathing, indecent propositions and other offences between March and June last year.
The unemployed 26-year-old began his latest campaign of harassment just days after being released in February 2008 from a jail term he received for an identical offence. Police say Barbar targeted some of the same women he originally victimised during his first bout of calling in 2006.
He also received a 10-year anti-social banning order with conditions including a ban on approaching women and using any phone not registered to him.
Eleven victims traced by police say they received more than 100 calls. He often targeted women he had met, including staff working in the offices of public and council services. But he also made hundreds of calls to seemingly random locations across the country, favouring car showrooms.
Barbar’s phone was never found, but the calls were linked to him by a specialist unit at New Scotland Yard.
Temporary Detective Constable Linda Rothera, who led the investigation said: “This sentencing is the result of a year-long investigation into a man whose actions have seriously upset and disturbed a large number of women in their workplaces. Barbar has a long history of this type of offending and I hope he will now receive the treatment he needs to correct his behaviour.”Barbar had pleaded guilty to all the charges. |
