West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 3 July 2009
Rubbish at the gallery
• NATIONAL Gallery or national disgrace? I refer to the anti-social behaviour on the grassy areas outside.
Some see these parts as a convenient place to deposit used beer cans and other assorted rubbish, no matter the convenience of bins nearby.
Also the drunken behaviour associated with the congregation of anti-social people regularly “camped” out on the lawns.
Certainly the police appear to have their work cut out to combat this menace as it has persisted for some time. typically, too, some adoring fans of the now dearly departed pop star Michael Jackson saw fit to add their “postscripts”to the walls of the gallery all, apparently, to the frustrations of local police, who were “obliged” to stand by and watch.
Sadly, also, the renovations at Marble Arch,in particular the attractive newly laid-out flower beds, have unfortunately, “encouraged” littering of the grass areas. I WALKER
