Crossrail plans for Tottenham Court Road |
‘Cross purposes’ over Crossrail
GOVERNMENT transport chiefs have denied reports that civil servants have predicted a delay to the Crossrail project caused by recession pressures.
Press officials at the Department for Transport said last night (Thursday) that a leaked memo published by the Guardian newspaper yesterday had been wrongly analysed.
The newspaper had quoted travel experts who said funding for the Crossrail project, which will link Romford with Maidenhead via Tottenham Court Road, Bond Street and Paddington, would be squeezed as part of a £30billion transport cut.
But the DfT officials refused to rule out cuts to Crossrail in the future. A spokesman said: “The figures the Guardian saw while useful (for projections) were not budgets. “We are where we were previously in terms of projects.” |
