Rocky Gurung and Kemik Thakali
Gang fight led to Thames drowning

THREE Nepalese have begun jail sentences for their roles in a gang fight which led to the death of a late night reveller who was attacked on the Embankment.
The victim, Bishal Gurung, drowned after being tipped into the fast-flowing Thames, an Old Bailey jury heard.
He died during a confrontation between rival groups of Nepalese men, many of them working part-time in West End restaurants.
Fights broke out on pleasure boats moored near Waterloo Bridge as drunken groups queued in the street above and tried to board.
“People threw bottles down and bottles were thrown back,” said Jonathan Laidlaw, QC, prosecuting.
Bishal Gurung, 23, the son of a Gurkha and living in Surrey where he worked and studied, was chased along the Embankment at 4am, beaten up and then dropped from the parapet into the river.
“He was lifted bodily and thrown in while he was semi-conscious. The strong currents swept him away. It wasn’t until two weeks later that his body was discovered,” added counsel.
Although large numbers of people were present and many witnessed the events, none came forward to help the victim or the police and that hindered the investigation into his death.
Rocky Gurung, 21, and Kemik Thakali, 20 from Morden, were cleared of murdering Bishal, on April 13 last year, but convicted of his manslaughter.
Judge Timothy Pontius sentenced them each to three years.
Missan Gurung, 25 from Brixton, was jailed for nine months for violent disorder.
