Time signature: John, Paul, George, Ringo and others
JOHN, Paul, George and Ringo, four names that need no introduction.
For all the “if you can remember the 1960s you weren’t there” folklore, we don’t recall any Beryl’s, Tyler’s or Leroy’s in the fab four.
But yesterday (Thursday) in Carnaby Street fans were given the chance to live out their fantasies by adding their signatures to a replica of the original 1962 management contract.
The 11ft by 8ft replica of the contract, also signed by late manager Brian Epstein, caused quite a stir when it was unveiled, with hardly a blank space in sight.
The event was organised by the Imagine Corporation, who are running a national competition to allow one winner the chance to own the original contract, which is currently insured for £500,000.
Epstein famously delayed signing the contract for eight months – waiting until he had fulfilled his promise to secure the four-piece their first record deal. He signed the band to EMI in October 1962, officially starting the management of The Beatles from that moment. |
