Safe sex Workers’ march after closure order victory
SEX workers in Soho paraded through the streets on Sunday to thank residents for their support in blocking police proposals to shut down a prostitutes’ flat in Dean Street.
The parade was the show-stopping main event at the Soho Festival, which saw around 1,000 revellers descend on St Anne’s Church Gardens.
In February sex workers and residents, including the parish priest David Gilmore, fought to overturn the police closure of the “walk-up” property.
Officers said it encouraged anti-social behaviour, but a court heard evidence it would mean putting women on the streets if it remained closed. The parade was organised by the Soho Working Girls and English Collective of Prostitutes. |
