The new development in St Giles High Street. |
Bright idea! Final touches for building
A CEREMONY marking the completion of a striking 21st-century building designed by a world-renowned architect took place on Saturday.
David Camp, chief executive of building contractors Stanhope, added the last shovel of concrete at the “topping out” ceremony of Renzo Piano’s colourful building in St Giles High Street.
Mr Piano said the construction brought a “joyous vibrancy” to the neglected area, with its dramatic infusion of red, orange, green and yellow glazed ceramic cladding.
Maurits van der Staay, of Renzo Piano Building Workshop, said: “We worked a long time on getting the right palette so it goes very well with the natural colours around the building.”
The mixed-use development, with 56 luxury flats and 53 affordable apartments, is being delivered by Stanhope on behalf of Legal & General and the Mitsubishi Estate Company. It is due to open in March. |
