West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 4 September 2009
Voluntary sector support
IN response to your front-page story (Charities crippled by rent hikes, August 28), we recognise the current rent levels are an issue for some voluntary organisations and this is why an independent review was carried out.
While work has already started to address the areas the gaps identified in this review, we would like to reassure your readers that the council will continue to support both charities and voluntary groups that come to us for assistance until we reach a long-term solution.
We recognise that the voluntary sector provides key public services and work has begun to develop a voluntary sector strategy better to support charities and voluntary organisations in Westminster.
We recognise that this provision makes a real difference to the lives of people in the city and we will continue to work hard to resolve these issues. Alastair Gilchrist
Strategic Director of Resources
Westminster City Council
