One-to-one support
IMPROVED GCSE results at Pimlico Academy are to be applauded.
The results however are hardly a surprise, as parents we were told “everything is being thrown at Year 11” and with one-to-one support, booster classes run throughout weekends and holidays (attendance rewarded by laptops, bikes, etc) this was certainly the case.
How were these interventions funded and why can’t every school afford to lavish such care and attention on exam year groups?
It would have been an interesting exercise were Pimlico School to have retained its community status and to have benefited from the same level of funding as awarded by the state to academies.
The government proposes to reduce the amount of extra funding given to academies and it will be interesting to see if this produces a more level playing field in an arena which, instead of expending energy on producing good schools for all, concentrates on generating competition.
