‘Supercentre’ to boost cancer survival rates
THE creation of a world-leading cancer centre at University College Hospital, moved a step closer this week with the appointment of the building contractors.
Permission for the £100million supercentre was granted in April with contractors Skanska due to complete it by 2010.
The centre is to “redefine” the way cancer patients are treated, focusing on all-round care.
Sir Robert Naylor, UCLH’s chief executive said: “Patients with breast cancer have very different needs to those with prostate cancer.
“So we have designed each floor differently and will staff them accordingly. This is unique in the UK and a first for the NHS.
“The whole point is to improve survival rates to match the best in the world.” |
