Street striker! Homeless man’s World Cup success
A young footballer living in the Centrepoint hostel in Tottenham Court Road has won a place in England’s homeless world cup team.
Eric Mvale, 26, will fulfil his childhood dream of representing his country when he steps out on the pitch at the tournament later this month.
He was wished on his way by his MP Frank Dobson outside parliament.
Mr Mvale said: “I’m really happy to have made the team. I’ve always loved football, it is the one thing that has kept me going and this is the biggest chance for me, I feel like I have really achieved something. I can’t wait to get to Milan now and get the tournament started. I really hope we can bring back the trophy.”
Mr Dobson said: “Making the homeless world cup is a testament to Eric’s determination to turn his life around and, with the support of Centrepoint, I am sure that the future will look bright for Eric.” |
