West End Extra - by JAMIE WELHAM

School’s out picnic for kids

PARENTS who have chosen to take their children out of mainstream education are set to hold a “not back to school picnic” in Paddington Street Gardens.
There will be face-painting, bubble-making and street theatre, as well as information stalls for parents considering home schooling in the gardens off Marylebone High Street on Wednesday lunch time.
Earlier in the year, the West End Extra spoke to some of the growing number of parents in the borough who are fed up with targets, testing and peer pressure and have made the difficult decision to break away from the classroom.
Lil Coles, a former school governor who lives in Victoria, chose to educate her nine-year-old daughter at home.
She said: “London home educators are using International Freedom in Education Day to celebrate publicly the many, diverse ways we choose to educate our children.”
