Failed by schools?
ARE under18s failed by school (Letters pages September 11 and 18)?
Do we have our priorities wrong here?
Why are children being excluded in the first place? Are lessons too boring? Are teachers failing to provide an exciting or a stimulating environment?
Surely the emphasis should be on the responsibility of pupils to engage in learning not expect to be entertained!
Parents should encourage children not to expect everything to be served up on a plate!
Try dealing with unruly behaviour rather than funding an expensive army of support staff, educational “experts”, advisers et al!
Daily I witness a small army of schoolchildren who clearly ought to be in school but wander the streets.
Simply throwing cash at this problem does not solve anything.
Years ago any
ill-discipline was swiftly and summarily dealt with by the teachers who really were in charge. That could be a class of 40 pupils handled by one lone teacher unaided! I Walker
