West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 25 September 2009
Back champions fighting poverty
I invite readers to help celebrate the achievements of those who support struggling families in your community.
Child poverty is a serious issue in London, with many families on low income and benefits. The government has pledged to end child poverty by 2020 and with the help of local partners we are making great strides towards this target.
The London Child Poverty Awards take place in November and recognise the outstanding efforts of both individuals and organisations who are tackling the problem and giving support to families that need it.
A lot of innovative work is being carried out by schools, local authorities, career advisers and other organisations, as well as inspiring efforts by individuals. This is your chance to make sure all this work gets the recognition it fully deserves.
Nominations for the London Child Poverty Awards can be submitted up until Monday October 5.
