West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 1 October 2009
I would rather like a Bentley, but not at someone else’s expense
• I SERVED Marylebone in a public capacity for more than 20 years and on retirement began renting a small private flat, the cost of which is nearly half my monthly pension. I respect Westminster as the flagship of London and take a jaundiced view of its council having an obligation to house anyone who rather fancies taking up a residence they couldn’t otherwise afford.
I would rather like a Bentley but recognise I have no right to acquire one and run it at someone else’s expense.
Let Westminster house those with a strong and verifiable “tie”, not spend our money housing anyone from elsewhere who says “I’m here, house me!” Mark Newberry, Harcourt Street, W1
