Gay hate killing appeal

A MURDER inquiry has been launched after a man assaulted in a homophobic act of “mindless violence” in Trafalgar Square died in hospital.
I
an Baynham, 62, from Beckenham in Kent, was punched and kicked to the ground by a man and two women in the brutal attack outside the South African embassy shortly before 11pm on Friday, September 25.
Detectives have released CCTV images they hope will lead them to the attackers. The footage captures two women who police believe hold vital information walking through Trafalgar Square shortly before the incident.
DCI Alexis Boon from Westminster Public Protection Unit, who is leading the investigation, said: “It is vital that anyone who can assist contacts us as soon as possible.”
Councillor Daniel Astaire, the council’s cabinet member for community safety, said: “We are extremely concerned by this horrific attack, and while such incidents are extremely rare in Westminster, we do not tolerate any violence or homophobia of any kind. We will offer any support we can to the police to help catch those responsible, and work with the local community to help prevent any such attack occurring again.”

Anyone with information should call Westminster CID on 020 7321 9314; to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
