West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 23 October 2009
Expensive mistakes
• I WAS appalled by the scale of transport fare increases announced by Boris Johnson on Thursday.
He has been throwing away money since he took office. The decision to scrap the bendy bus and the western extension while abandoning the additional charge for high-polluting vehicles has lost TfL revenues in excess of £148million.
When Boris made these promises in his manifesto, he didn’t mention he was going to turn around and give Londoners the bill afterwards!
The “generosity” of Boris’s savings of 12p a week per household by freezing the precept has been undermined as he forces Londoners to pay an additional £2.80 a week on a 7-day bus ticket or 20p more per Oyster card Tube journey. It’s time Boris Johnson stood up and supported Londoners. David Rowntree,
Denbigh Street, SW1
