West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 13 November 2009
Road fears
• CHILDREN today have nothing like the freedom of earlier generations.
They must be driven to school, seat-belted in the back and when they arrive their playgrounds now look like prison yards. It is rare to see children roaming the streets and even rarer to see them playing in them. Fear of attack is often a reason given, but what about hit-and-run?
This is now one of the main causes of death and disability to under-15s.
In London there were 238 casualties last year. Antony Porter
