Backlash at Ritchie pub
COULD it be last orders at the bar for Guy Ritchie and his Mayfair boozer?
Residents living near the Punch Bowl pub in Farm Street, who have long bemoaned the paparazzi and mayhem they say the A-list drinkers bring to the neighbourhood, have called on the council to strip the pub of its licence.
A 23-page application for a licence review claims the pub, part owned by Mr Ritchie since March last year, has caused a “downward spiral in the quality of life for local residents”.
It says: “Prior to about April 2008 the pub did not seem to cause any problems for the local populace.
“However, since then, the character of the pub has changed completely, which has led to a severe downward spiral in the quality of life for local residents.
“Noise from crowds of drinkers outside the premises has become intolerable. The customers spill out into the street, blocking residents’ parking bays and the road. Passers-by are forced to walk in the road as the pavement is often blocked.”
In the past year the Punch Bowl has transformed itself from a local pub for office workers and neighbours into a celebrity hangout that has seen the likes of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Justin Timberlake go through its doors.
The council’s licensing committee will hear the case for and against the pub
on December 17.
