West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 27 November 2009
Needle win
I campaigned alongside other local residents against the proposed drug treatment centre (and needle exchange) being located at 14 Roger Street.
I consider the decision to withdraw the application to use Roger Street by CRI (the company with responsibility to set up the centre) as a victory for common sense and the result of the hard work of residents.
This site was a particularly ludicrous choice, given that Roger Street is surrounded by residential properties and its proximity to local schools.
As vice-chair of governors at one of these I was particularly appalled that the headmistress was not consulted and was only informed of the proposals following the campaign. There is still the possibility of such a centre being located in one of our neighbourhoods so it is important to ensure that all local residents are given the chance to be consulted.
