‘Hell’ neighbours thrown off estate

“NEIGHBOURS from hell,” who inflicted a two-year reign of terror on a Pimlico housing estate have been evicted.
Police joined up with Westminster Council to obtain a premises closure order for the flat on the Churchill Gardens estate which had been used as a base for drug dealing and dog-fighting.
Nearby residents told City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court that they had lived in fear of the family for more than two years, especially the 18 and 22-year-old sons, who would roam the estate intimidating anyone who got in their way.
Councillor Daniel Astaire, cabinet member for community safety said: “These were neighbours from hell who blighted the lives of ordinary, peaceful and law-abiding people who lived nearby.
“No one should be afraid to walk to their home or stand outside their front door but this was the case on the Churchill Gardens estate.
“While very much a last resort, we are not afraid to use powers open to the authorities to prevent people suffering from the scourge of others’ anti-social behaviour.”
The flat has now been boarded up and CityWest Homes are planning to rent it to someone else.
There are currently 133 “live” anti-social behaviour orders in Westminster and 20 premises closure orders have been obtained against “nuisance properties” since June 2009.
