Berie Banjica and Terry Powers-Hockings in their school nativity play
Little stars, shining bright!
STARS twinkled brightly above Camden’s school halls this week as the traditional Christmas play season got under way.
The traditional nativity story was top of the bill at most schools as Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus nestled for space on stages with hosts of angels, three wise men and donkeys as the story of Christmas was played out for parents and staff.
Brecknock school in Camden Town had a problem when the pupil selected to play Joseph could not make it to school last Wednesday. But plucky understudy Terry Powers-Hockings stepped in and did his wife Mary – Berie Banjica – proud.
It was standing room only at Beckford School in West Hampstead where Jake Bennett, 6, took on the coveted role of Joseph. He said: “I feel proud of myself and really happy.”
At Hampstead Church of England School, the traditional story was told from the eyes of the donkey – and had the title Donkey For Sale.
There was a similar theme at Mind The Manger, the show at Holy Trinity School in Swiss Cottage where pupils told the story of a clumsy donkey making his way to Bethlehem.
It was a different story altogether at Eleanor Palmer in Kentish Town where the Year 5 pupils put on a Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream – albeit an abbreviated 45-minute version.
At Hawley Infants School in Camden Town, youngsters dressed up as tin soldiers, Russian dancers and fairy ballerinas for a performance of The Nutcracker.
