The criteria for potential Castlehaven Projects was defined as ‘anything that benefits the Camden area, such as the replanting of a public garden, clearing rubbish from canal towpaths, painting over unattractive graffiti or any other such project that the local community will appreciate’.

The two most popular project nominations now constitute the two major volunteer projects scheduled to take place either side of the Camden Crawl festival in April. These are:

THE CASTLEHAVEN COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

Volunteers will be based around the Castlehaven Community Centre to complete a number of smaller projects. These include painting the outside of the youth centre, litter picking, gardening and visiting members of the centre’s elderly residents scheme to help with tasks such as window cleaning that have become difficult for those of a certain age to accomplish on their own. This project will take place prior to the festival on Sunday 12th April - timings to be confirmed.

ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH GARDENS

St Michael’s Church is a Grade Two listed architectural gem in the heart of Camden that often goes unnoticed to passers by on the busy Camden Road. Due to a lack of funding and manpower, the garden area to the side and back of the Church would benefit greatly from the services of an enthusiastic volunteer team. The efforts of dedicated parishioners have seen the introduction of wheelchair-height flowerbeds and the beginnings of a paving stone path, but there is still some way to go to creating a community friendly space next to the Church that was consecrated in 1881. This project will take place over the weekend following the Camden Crawl festival - date and timings to be confirmed.

If you will be aged between 16 and 21 by April 2009 and are interested in joining a volunteer team to work on these projects, please click HERE for more information on how to register.
