SHOUT OUT LOUD AND CLEAR
We help launch unique voice for youth
YOUNG people have a unique chance to speak up about their frustrations and explain how they think life in Camden can be improved by contributing to a Book of Grievances.
The murder of popular teenager Tommy Winston – one year ago to the day yesterday (Wednesday) – brought together young people and community activists in Kentish Town. They have been discussing what they can do to give teenagers a voice and make politicians stand up and listen.
The Book of Grievances, which the New Journal is pleased to help launch today (Thursday), will enable young people to make their voices heard. They can contribute to the book by writing down their views, texting or going online.
It poses two simple but crucial questions: What is wrong with life in Camden for young people? And how can it get better?
The book will be presented to councillors, politicians and the police.
The first contributions were provided yesterday (Wednesday) by teenagers who all knew Tommy, 18. Hopefully over the next few weeks, teenagers from every corner of the borough will add their views whilst hanging out on estates, in youth clubs or in schools.
As the book grows, it will become impossible for the voice of Camden’s youth to be ignored. > more |
