WHO SOLD GRANNY’S ANTIQUES?

New Journal investigation exposes Town Hall racket

ANTIQUES removed during the clearing of a dying 92-year-old woman’s flat by a council housing team have been found on sale in a nearby furniture shop.
A four-week New Journal investigation into the clearance of Dorothy Robinson’s Gospel Oak council flat while she was in a nursing home yesterday offered evidence to the Town Hall that a distinctive Victorian commode last seen in the flat was on sale in a antique shop in York Way, Kentish Town, three weeks later.
The Town Hall pledged a “wide-ranging investigation” into Mrs Robinson’s case and the 1,200 house clearances ordered by the council each year. Mrs Robinson died shortly after the January 4 clearance. Ian Marshall-Fisher, her friend of 50 years, said: “Dorothy had a three-bedroom flat full of wonderful furniture.
“She had furniture from Heals from the 1940s, and she had furniture of her mother’s dating back to the 19th century.
“The reality is that her house was looted.”
